The Heart of an Athlete
“If there is no struggle, there is no progress,” were the words of
Fredrick Douglas. What does it take to be an athlete? There is a difference
between a person who plays sports and an athlete who is dedicated. The heart of an
athlete is amazing.
To be an athlete you have to be physically and mentally tough. When you
are having a tough game, and maybe are losing you can’t show an attitude. You
have to be mentally strong and shake it off. Physically you have to be in
shape. If the team or coach needs you to play a whole game without a break, and
you are not physically in shape, you are not a true athlete.
Teamwork, to be an athlete you have to know your teams strengths and
weaknesses. Being a team player is equally important. Congratulating your team
will get both you and your team pumped up and excited.
The endurance of an athlete is incredible. You have to be totally into
the sport. Every chance an athlete gets to work on their game they do it. “
Every time I’m in the gym I think about my future, college basketball. I want
to strive to reach that goal so I work hard.” These were the words of a true
athlete Krista Wagstrom. The work ethic of a person who plays sports is
normal, but the work ethic of an athlete is constant, they are always putting forth
their best effort.
“If there is no pain, there is no gain.” Do you have the heart,
endurance, mental and physical part that it takes to be an athlete? If you like
playing sports that is ok, but to be an athlete is quite a challenge. Do you have
what it takes to be an athlete?
