Warm-Up
Form Shoot - We want all players to be at practice at least 15 minutes before start time. During that time I want them to start out with form shooting. Then work on any moves or shots.
Center Court - Prior to practice we’ll talk at center court. This can be just about anything.
Ballhandling - We’ll go through all 4 Seasons Ball Handling Drills.
Dribble Drills - Full court dribble drills, see Dribble Drills explanations under 4SBS Drills & Workouts.
Legs should be warmed up at this time & ready to start running harder.
6:10 to 6:15
5 min.
Warm-Up
Passing
These drills are basic drills we’ve all used at all levels. Passing drills should be done everyday in practice. Here’s a partial list of what we do. I make sure to mix it up never doing the same thing over & over.
2 line passing - Shuffle - bounce & chest - Run - bounce & chest
3 man weave - Wide - Tight
5 man weave
5-4-3-2-1 pass weave
6:15 to 6:25
10 min.

Transition
We work transition everyday, we want to be a very good transition team. I believe any team can run if you have good transition fundamentals. We try to perfect them daily. I do not use a number system. My players are taught from the 3rd & 4th grade to run the lanes. By the time they get to high school they can get up the floor from any position. Also goes with my freelance offensive philosophy. I don’t like to handcuff the players in any way. They react to the defense instead of a play call.
5 man break - Regular - Wooden Break - Sideline Break
Secondary Break, 32-21 - - - - - I plug in different drills in this section everyday, emphasizing boxing out, team rebounding & others.
6:25 to 6:30
5 min.
Stretch
Teach good stretching habits to your team. This will help prevent injuries throughout the season. Don’t let them go through the motions. Explain why we stretch.
6:30 to 6:40
10 min.
Run & Jump Drill
The Run & Jump defense is our main defense we use, both half court and full. We run it two different ways just for a change. It’s also a great way to add pressure to the dribbler. Our kids run this in middle school also. The kids love this drill & it gets everyone pumped up & ready to get after it. We love defense. 1 on 2 - 2 on 3 full court - - - - - I plug in different drills in this section everyday, emphasizing our defensive philosophy.
6:40 to 6:50
10 min.
Individual
Shooting
Although we only spend about 10+ minutes each on the next two sections of practice I feel this might be one of the most important areas to work on. Individual and partner shooting is critical in the development of your players. Always have your players go game speed. You can find many of the drills we use on the site under “Phases”.
6:50 to 7:00
10 min.
Partner Shooting
In our offense we run a lot of 2 game options. Everything we do in these drills is directly related to our offense both man to man and zone. Each day we partner up with a different partner. We can get a lot done in a short amount of time in these two 10 minute sections of our practice. These drills are also found on site under phases.

2nd hour we work on game situations.

7:00 to 7:10
10 min.
1/2 Court
M2M Offense
We’ll concentrate on our man to man 1/2 court offense. I’ll stop play as much as we need to make points & adjustments. We will talk about the defense if necessary.
Basics - Cuts, Screen away, screen the ball?, ball reversal, 2 Game, Dribble Pick, all fundamentals.
7:10 to 7:20
10 min.
1/2 Court
M2M Defense
Concentrate on man to man defense, either full deny & contain. Again we will stop the play when necessary. We will also let them break on misses. They must block out & outlet & run the lanes correctly or they give the ball back to the other team.
7:20 to 7:30
10 min.
1/2 Court
Zone Offense
Same as above we’ll run 1/2 court only and stop play as needed.
7:30 to 7:40
10 min.
1/2 Court
Zone Defense
Run transition off misses. Done correctly, everyone must box out or you don’t get the ball, you stay on defense until done right.
7:40 to 7:50
10 min.
Full Court
We’ll use this time to go full court. We won’t stop the play unless we really need to make a teaching point. We do talk constantly as they play. We will also use many different scenarios of the game. Most of the time we’ll run man first our main defense.
Such as: M2M - Transition
Run & Jump on makes back M2M on misses
7:50 to 8:00
10 min.
Full Court
Same as above but we’ll change things up a little. Most of the time we’ll work on zone here.
