Similar to the Daily Dozen drill we use this drill to improve moves to the basket to get the easy lay-up. Shooting line and a rebound line. Stress game situation.
Options:
1. Cross-over Dribble. Player sets his man up and makes a very hard cross-over dribble and explodes to the basket for a lay-up.
2. Reverse Dribble: Stress a quick dribble and a long step around the defense.
3. Behind the back Dribble: Some many young players forget this is a great move to get around the defense. Stress a change of direction.
4. Between the legs Dribble: This is good for all players to improve their ball handling skills.
Don’t forget the left side.
Baseline Power Move: Move one line under the basket and have the passing line on top in the middle of the court. Game situation once again. Passer starts his dribble and sets up the defense to get the pass off to the wing. Line under the basket will set his man up and cut to the wing (never to the corner nothing ever happens good in the corner) receiving a good pass from the point. Catch the ball with a jump catch or use the rocker step.
Options: 1. Drive the baseline using the correct hand on the dribble, square up parallel to the backboard using a two foot takeoff for power lay up. Use the backboard.
2. Same move to the basket using a reverse lay-up. Stay square to the backboard. Don’t takeoff to far away from the basket.
3. Receive pass from point, use rocker step one dribble right and shoot the jump shot. Follow for rebound. 4. Do this with one left handed dribble next. Make sure we use good jump shooting technique, don’t get to far out on the court and receive the ball on the wing. Coaches don’t stress made baskets, stress form and technique. This will become second nature and the ball will go in. |
