Figure 2
Players position on the floor
This is the general position on the floor. We do not assign positions to players. We'll use these numbers to help make it easier to understand on paper. Player 1: Front court area. Players 4-5: Above the 3 point line, foul line extended. Players 2-3: Above the box, outside the lane. As stated above these players numbers do not have any suggestion to their offensive ability. They are interchangeable. I try and develop more then one player with the capabilities to bring the ball up the floor. |

Figure 3
This shows you the general scoring areas that the Kansas Offense will produce if players will execute basic basketball fundamentals and patience. We try to take the highest percentage shot we can each trip down the floor. We never let the defense dictate what shots we take. Because we're in charge. After all we have the ball. We do encourage a player to take the open shot outside the scoring area. A player not taking the open shot will eliminate a great scoring opportunity. The missed shot can become a pass very easily, because of the spacing in the Kansas offense we are always in the correct position for the rebound. Especially the backside board. We stress the backside board constantly. We teach when and where to take that open shot. |

Figure 4
As Player 1 brings the ball down and crosses half court the play begins. The two wing players set picks on the low post players and role open to the ball. Seal your man & post up strong. Stay low and get wide. Want the Ball. |

Figure 5
Point Entry Player 1 must see the post as they seal their man. Get in position to make a strong "bounce" pass to the post if open.

Figure 6
Player 1 does not pick a side but sets his man up. Using a cross-over dribble. He then can make an easy pass to either wing player. Stay high on the floor away from the 3 point line. Keep the floor as big as you can. Stay out of the traffic. I tell my younger players make that pass on a 10 foot rope. (Be within 10 feet) Player 1 has to anticipate which wing player will be open at the wing. See the floor. Player 1 DO NOT THROW A PASS FROM THE POINT TO THE WING! Important: Throw a good bounce pass to the outside leg of wing player away from the defender as soon as he's open. Do not make the wing player wait for the ball. Do not throw a chest pass. Wing player receive the ball and turn and face the basket. |
